Csaba Csere

Editor-In-Chief

Csaba Csere joined CAR and DRIVER as its Technical Editor in 1980. He brought to the magazine a passion for cars, a degree in mechanical engineering from MIT, and an expert motorcycle road racing license, all of which were better utilized by the magazine than by Csere’s previous employer, the Ford Motor Company.

Mark Gillies

Executive Editor

Mark was born in the United Kingdom and educated at Reading School and St. Catharine’s College in Cambridge. He started out working for Classic and Sportscar magazine in England in 1983 before moving to Autocar as a features editor in 1985.

Steve Spence

Managing Editor

Steve Spence joined CAR and DRIVER as Managing Editor in August 1990. Prior to his journalism career, Steve was a restaurant owner and chef. He has also worked for nine newspapers, including the Sacramento Union, Los Angeles Times, and Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Jeffrey Dworin

Art Director

Jeffrey joined CAR and DRIVER in 1989 after a 5 year stint with AutoWeek magazine. He is currently the magazine’s Art Director and also serves as staff photographer. He graduated from Detroit's College for Creative Studies, where he studied graphic design and photography.

Larry Webster

Technical Director

Larry Webster came to CAR and DRIVER while still attending college at Lehigh University. His ability to keep awake during classes was waning, and he needed a reason to continue torturing himself with the engineering curriculum. So he convinced Andre Idzikowski, Road Test Editor, to let him wash cars, do office errands, and wait on the editors hand and foot for a summer.

Mike Dushane

Mike Dushane joins CAR and DRIVER from Automobile Magazine, where he was a contributor from 2000 to 2004 and online editor from 2004 to 2006. From 1996 to 2004, Mike had chief operating responsibilities at ArabHorse.com, the largest online Arabian Horse marketing firm.

Patrick Bedard

Editor-at-Large

Patrick Bedard received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University and a Master of Automotive Engineering from the Chrysler Institute of Engineering. He worked as a Development Engineer at Chrysler Corporation for five years before joining CAR and DRIVER as Technical Editor in 1967.

John Phillips III

John Phillips graduated from Ohio State University and Oxford University. He has written for car magazines since 1974 and has also contributed stories to Sports Illustrated, Conde Nast Traveler, Elle, Harper’s, the Toronto Globe & Mail, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. For almost eight years he was Executive Editor at CAR and DRIVER and before that was a Senior Editor at Automobile.

Barry Winfield

After graduating from Roosevelt High School in Johannesburg, South Africa, Barry spent a year in the army as a military policeman. After the army, Barry has worked at Thomson’s Publications, Turret Press, Pulse Publications', BIKE magazine, S.A. Auto, and Scope. Thereafter, he helped found Drive, a twice-monthly tabloid-sized automotive newspaper.

Old Boy Racer

Currently serving as Executive Editor of CAR and DRIVER, Tony Swan is a veteran of over thirty years in wheels-related enterprises, including advertising and public relations activities, as well as automotive journalism. The Minneapolis native has held staff positions with AutoWeek, Sports Car Graphic, Motor Trend, Cycle World, and Popular Mechanics magazines, and also contributes new car reviews to the Detroit Free Press newspaper.

Aaron Robinson

Technical Editor

Growing up near Detroit, Aaron belongs to the one family in town that has absolutely nothing to do with cars, and is thus certain he was adopted. Classmates at the University of Michigan, where he slithered through with a liberal arts degree in 1991 having completed perhaps 30 percent of the required reading, helped him land a brief job as a car-washer for Automobile magazine which ended soon after he sent a memo to magazine founder David E. Davis Jr. with a few driving tips.

Dave Vanderwerp

Online Deputy Editor

Dave VanderWerp is currently a technical editor at CAR and DRIVER, a position he accepted in May 2004. He’s responsible for the majority of performance testing at the home office, as well as writing vehicle reviews and compiling specification tables. VanderWerp is a techie by trade, graduating from the University of Michigan in 2001 with a Mechanical Engineering degree.

Tony Quiroga

Associate Editor

Tony is a graduate of Vanderbilt University, where he studied enough engineering that his English degree is a Bachelor of Science rather than a Bachelor of Arts sheepskin. Tony also has two years of pre-med studies under his belt. Tony possesses a burning curiosity for all things automotive, and his knowledge of older BMWs and Porsches verges on encyclopedic.

Robin Warner

Assistant Technical Editor

Robin started at CAR and DRIVER in 1999 as a whipping boy, sometimes called a Road Warrior. He began racing karts in 2001 and instantly started winning. By 2002 he won several races and three karting championships including the 2002 Great Lakes Regional championship in the Rotax class.
