Case studies

Kawasaki

Task:

Kawasaki was on the brink of launching its Ninja ZX-6R and needed a big idea that emphasized the bike’s performance abilities to complement its print campaign.

Solution:

Using its extensive archive and supplied photos and content Cycle World created an advertorial that focused on the ZX-6R’s rich history, chronicling the evolution of the 600 Ninja engine and the technical advancements evident in the Ninja ZX-6R.

The 8 page butterfly gatefold advertorial ran in the center spread position in the March 2007 issue of Cycle World, coinciding with the launch of the Ninja ZX-6R. The advertorial benefited from Cycle World’s circulation of 325,000 and its 3 million person audience.

It was a successful piece of Kawasaki’s print campaign and was later adapted for use in show displays and considered for use in global markets.

Suzuki

Task:

Suzuki was advertising its M109R Boulevard and wanted to extend its message further to include the full line of Boulevard offerings in order to emphasize Suzuki’s early and successful commitment to the cruiser market.

Solution:

Using photos supplied by Suzuki and content written by Cycle World staff an 8 page butterfly foldout advertorial was created to run in the November 2006 issue of Cycle World.

It focused on the history of Suzuki cruisers as well as data tech panels and descriptions of the full product line of the Suzuki Boulevard series.

The advertorial was adapted for use online with buttons on cycleworld.com and suzuki.com leading to a micro site containing an online version of the advertorial. The button could be found on cycleworld.com on the Buyer’s Guide home page and on each page of the Buyer’s Guide a Suzuki model was listed.

Further, pdf’s of the advertorial were provided to Suzuki to be used at its discretion.

The advertorial was a successful piece of Suzuki’s overall Boulevard Cruiser campaign and led to continuing advertorials with Cycle World.
