Dick Koenig has been on FLYING’s masthead for the past 31 years and has been Publisher of FLYING, a Hachette Filipacchi Media US title, since July 1987. He joined Ziff Davis publishing and FLYING in 1976 as the Mid-Atlantic Sales Manager, was promoted to Eastern Sales Manager in 1978, Advertising Director in May 1979, Associate Publisher in November 1981 and Vice President/Publisher in 1987.
Previously, Koenig served as Publication Manager for two years with Denver-based publisher, Jeppesen, Inc., the world’s largest aviation flight information provider. Before joining Jeppesen, Koenig flew as a corporate chief pilot, airline pilot/flight engineer, a flight instructor and a real estate sales director.
In 1979, Koenig completed six years of active duty with the U.S. Army, flying both airplanes and helicopters. He served two combat tours in the Republic of Vietman, flying armed helicopter gunships and one tour of duty in Korea. Koenig completed 15 more years flying Sikorsky Skycranes with the Connecticut Army Guard. He is a 7,000 hour ATP pilot with CFII and helicopter ratings.
Koenig holds degrees from John Carroll University in English and Economics. He has been married to his wife Patty for 41 years and they have 3 daughters and one son. They live in Trumbull, CT.
