Carol Smith was named Senior Vice President and Group Publishing Director of ELLE in March of 2002. Since her appointment, Smith has expanded the ELLE brand to include newsstand specials, retail and entertainment divisions, numerous television partnerships including the successful Bravo’s Project Runway, and a re-launch of ELLE.com. Under Smith’s direction, ELLE was honored in Advertising Age’s "The A List" in 2006 and 2007, in recognition of the largest increase in ad pages among its competition and its huge growth in newsstand sales. ELLE was also named one of Top 10 Brand Blazers of 2006 by Mediaweek, earning praise for the brand’s massive power and recognition. Smith came to ELLE after a significant tenure at Time Inc. where she co-founded Parenting magazine, and later expanded the brand into the The Parenting Group, creating a series of custom publishing projects and programs for the Parenting label. While she was at Parenting, Smith also launched VIBE magazine as part of the Time Inc. Ventures Group.
She currently lives in Manhattan with her husband and daughter
